Admin: Dr. Manoj Kumar Goel | Date: 2025-05-27

Shortness of breath, or difficulty catching your breath, can be alarming and affect your daily life. While occasional breathlessness can result from exercise, anxiety, or a common cold, persistent or severe breathing issues should not be ignored.

If you find yourself struggling to breathe even at rest, experiencing wheezing, chest tightness, or a chronic cough that won’t go away, it’s time to consider seeing a lung specialist, also known as a pulmonologist. These symptoms might indicate underlying lung conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, or even more serious diseases like pulmonary fibrosis or lung infections.

Summer Heat & Lung Health: How to Avoid Asthma Flare-Ups

Admin: Dr. Manoj Kumar Goel | Date: 2025-04-23

As temperatures rise, so do the challenges for those living with asthma. Summer heat, coupled with high humidity and air pollution, can worsen respiratory symptoms, leading to increased asthma flare-ups. But with a few smart precautions, you can breathe easier this season. Hot air can irritate already sensitive airways, especially during outdoor activities. Try to stay indoors during peak heat hours, usually between 12 PM and 4 PM. Use air purifiers and keep windows closed on high-pollution days to reduce indoor allergens and pollutants

Stay hydrated—dehydration can thicken mucus, making it harder to breathe. Always carry your rescue inhaler and follow your asthma action plan. Exercise during cooler times of the day and avoid areas with heavy traffic or construction, which can worsen air quality.

Why Are Some People More Prone to Pneumonia?

Why Are Some People More Prone to Pneumonia?

Admin: Dr. Manoj Kumar Goel | Date: 2025-03-29

Pneumonia is a serious lung infection that can affect anyone, but some people are more vulnerable due to specific risk factors. The immune system plays a crucial role in fighting infections, and individuals with weakened immunity—such as the elderly, infants, and those with chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, or cancer—are at higher risk.

Smoking and exposure to air pollution damage lung defenses, making it easier for bacteria and viruses to invade. People with respiratory conditions like asthma or COPD are also more susceptible, as their lungs are already compromised.

Hospitalized patients, especially those on ventilators, face an increased risk due to prolonged exposure to germs. Protecting lung health and seeking timely medical care are key to preventing complications.

Lung diseases can develop gradually, and often, symptoms might be mild at first. Recognizing the early signs is crucial for early diagnosis and effective treatment. Here are a few key symptoms to watch for:

Persistent Cough: A cough that doesn’t go away after a few weeks, or changes in frequency or intensity, could be a sign of lung disease.

Shortness of Breath: Difficulty breathing during simple activities like walking or climbing stairs may indicate lung issues.

Chest Pain: Discomfort, especially during deep breaths, might relate to infections, pleurisy, or even lung cancer.

Wheezing: A high-pitched sound when exhaling may signal asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
